VAMP Guidelines

The goal of Vero Area Match Play (VAMP) is to provide match play opportunities for women from Vero Beach’s private and semi-private clubs. VAMP currently includes Bent Pine, Grand Harbor, Indian River Club, John’s Island, The Moorings/Hawks Nest, Orchid Island, Pointe West, Quail Valley, Riomar and Vero Beach Country Club. Teams of eight members from each club play competitively against each other, followed by post-match social
gatherings. At the end of the season, one club hosts a Fun Day for VAMP match participants.

1. Team Player Eligibility
  • To be eligible for VAMP play, a woman must be at least 21 years of age, have a course handicap of 36 or less and she must be a full olf member of the club participating in VAMP.  A player may only play for one club per season.
  • While some clubs may feel it desirable to select the eight lowest handicap players available, it shall be the captain’s choice as to which ladies play, regardless of handicap.
    Each team may arrange their own dress code.
2. Team Captain Responsibilities
Home and Away Matches:
  • No later than three days prior to each match, the visiting captain shall forward a list of each player, her index, and her member number. Pairings will be done by the host captain in order of index.
  • Host captain will coordinate food and beverage needs with club management.
  • Ensure that the course’s Pace of Play Sheet (sample attached) is on each pair’s golf cart.
  • On the day of play, the host team should notify security at the gate, welcome the visiting team and direct them to the pro shop, locker room, water, and where to meet following play. Inform them of any local rules and the pin placement for that day.
  • Collect $5 from each player the first time she plays to be put toward Fun Day at the end of the year.
  • Following the play, obtain the scorecards from your players. Confirm the team totals with the visiting captain. Both captains shall email the team scores by the end of the day to:

  • Each captain is responsible for posting all match scores (not as tournament scores).

Match Play Rules:

  • It is suggested that captains familiarize their team members with the rules of match play. You might also refer them to the Vamp site which has a section titled “Basic Rules and Etiquette of Match Play.” .
The pace of Play:

It is important that VAMP continue to be welcomed at our host clubs. The best way to accomplish this is to play on a timely basis, respecting the host club’s staff and their membership.

  • Please remind your team members to arrive early so that all players are ready to play “balls in the air” at their tee time.
  • All matches MUST be completed within the club’s pace of play. Players who do not finish within 15 minutes of the pace may be considered ineligible to play in future matches.
  • If a foursome falls more than 2 holes behind the group in front of them, they must finish the hole, skip the next hole (considering it halved), and head to the next tee.
  • Give a copy of “Pace of Play Requirements” (attached) to each team member.
Coordinate the Calendar:

  • Upon receiving the schedule, please communicate the dates with your pro and anyone else within your club you deem necessary. If you have a conflict with a date, please contact the other captain to reschedule as soon as possible, at least two weeks before the match.
3. The Matches
  •  The format is a better ball of partners’ match play, 100% handicap, playing off the low ball, with a maximum course handicap of 36. The lowest handicapped players will play in the first position, the next lowest in the second position, and so on.  Scorecards shall be marked accordingly by the host captain or club pro, one for each team. Scoring will be based on one point per hole for a total of 18 points – 1 point for winning a hole, ½ for tying, and 0 for losing the hole.  Compile a list of all the pairings, one for yourself and one for the visiting captain, so you can record the team scores after the match.
  • All matches shall be played from the same tees at each club, and on the same course in the case of Grand Harbor and John’s Island. Starting time is usually 11:30am to 12:00pm. We are flexible as to starting time and day as needed to facilitate additional clubs’ participation. The cost will be $40 per person, which includes cart, food, tax, and gratuities. It is recommended that we all charge these fees back to our respective clubs.
  • All players must use carts – no caddies. On the first hole, the host ladies tee off first, with honors golf thereafter. Record your foursome’s starting and finishing times on scorecard.
  • On the course, the use of cell phones is prohibited, whether texting or phoning, except in the case of a real emergency.
  • Immediately upon completion of the match, a player from each team shall sign and attest the scorecards with each player’s scores and the points won by each side clearly marked. Return cards to pro shop or team captain. No changes will be made after the cards have been turned in.

At the end of the season, a winner will be determined, and the club name imprinted on the traveling trophy. If a tie exists, whichever club won in their head-to-head play would
be declared the winner.

4. Team Play Rules
  • The USGA Rules of Golf shall govern all play. Each player is encouraged to carry a current rule book for reference. During the match, if there is disagreement over the rules of play or the score for that hole, a claim must be made prior to teeing off at the next hole. Upon completion of their match, the players involved shall consult with the club pro for resolution prior to any results being posted.
  • If on the day of play, a team does not have 8 players available, they shall play shorthanded with 6 or 7 players. The opposing captain should be notified as soon as possible. It will be the captain’s choice as to which player(s) play alone. List the players in ascending order of their handicaps, and the captain may shift one player up or down one playing position. If playing with 6 ladies, there must be at least one player in each of the four matches. Any match that plays with one player against two players will have a maximum win of 11 points for the two-player side. The shorthanded team gets the points that the individual player has won.
  • If a club must forfeit a match, a score for that match will be posted as 0 points for the forfeiting team to 40 points for the other team.
  • Should there be rain just prior to or during the match, play may be delayed up to one hour at the discretion of the two captains and the club pro.  Once play has started and is halted, if the first team has played 14 holes or more, the match will be counted with the balance
    of holes scored as halved. If 14 holes have not been played, then the match shall be re-scheduled.
5. Fun Day
  • There will be a Fun Day at the end of the season. The form of play and number of players will be determined by the host club.
  • Captains will forward the $5 they have collected from each player to the host club. This money will be put toward prizes and a trophy.  Up to $100 may be used by the winning team to purchase a permanent plaque with a team photo and players’ names on it.
